It is summer again and like most ladies out there, I am caught up in my room, instead of being out in the sun… why, you may ask? Well I am yet to tackle the summer conundrum, where do I draw the line under bold and ecstatic to the drab and boring. This post is about how I inspired myself to flip the conventional, and went for the inspiring look.
Street style stars keep flooding our Instagram feeds with inspo posts for the months of summer, from Freda Wewer to Emili Sindlev, I am thinking lightweight party looks, vivid florals and show stopping kitten heels… dispel the notion that summer wear can’t be playful and sexy.
Whether you are off to a party or to work for a law firm or ad agency, we will all accept that no one settles for the drab midi skirt and bask tee top. How about a splash of neon boldness? It is all about quenching our thirst for vibrant colours and staying styled. Matched with boots and experiment with mouth-watering accessories. Bring on the bright coloured linen suits, plunge neckline bodycon dress or the hug to waist midi skirt in neon. It is all neon boldness.
The Carrie Bradshaw inspired square toe sandals have made a fashion come back, and like the phoenix rises from the ashes, we couldn’t be any happier with these fashion icons. It is summer, and this means my toes can get a little bit of warm weather frenzy and freedom. Slap on with a pair of knee length leather skirt and the classic blue or white shirt for the corporate vibe look.
Tighter bodycon skirts with crop tops allow for the party girl to also rock this same combination; albeit sexier. The last bit of the puzzle in either style suggestions; corporate or party girl look, is a pair of lime hued lined boxy jackets; whether it is for the boardroom chair look or the party girl outing in the chilly evenings of summer, suits, suits, suits is all that matters. Complete with matching accessories and a beaded bag that just bangs on trend.
This suggested style post will not be complete without the inclusion of the floral look… yeah I know I said it is time to flip the conventional, but lets face it, some conventions are for our own good, and the floral summer style is one of such. Be it the blazer top, floral dress or a bodycon, floral in summer just screams YES, PLEASE!!
Cap sleeves, calf-length dresses; and we know it is the disco girl to date night look. Or how about a throwback to the glorious 90’s, in egg yolk yellow, cross stitched and floral embroidery. Perfect for the comfy commute, right? Proof that summer wear can be equally playful as it can be sexy.
